YEAR OF THE ENVIRONMENT

Environment in Russia is characterized by a large number of different environmental problems. Many of them have been inherited by Russia from the Soviet Union, where management often led to environmental pollution, especially in heavy industry and mining. At that time, the authorities often considered environmental concerns to be unimportant and unnecessary. According to some estimates, as a result, by the end of the 1990s about 40% of the territory of Russia experienced serious environmental problems such as deforestation, radioactive contamination, air and water pollution [1]. According to official data, 15% of the territory of the Russian Federation with about 60% of the population has the unsatisfactory quality of the environment.
